Route of the Volcanoes

Enjoy a special route through the volcanic lava of the island of El Hierro, which will allow you to admire a unique landscape in the Canary Islands.

A path with a geological approach walking among the volcanic cones that gave birth to the lava flows that form Los Lajiales, one of the most significant natural landscap es of the youngest island of the archipelago.

The Senda step by step

1. Start. Once we are at the meeting point, we will depart to Los Lajiales, an area located in the low leeward area, in the southern vertex of the island, in the vicinity of the fishing village of La Restinga.

2. Walk among volcanic lava. You will find yourself in a unique landscape where you will be able to make out the almost intact morphology of the Lajiales Herreños, which still look very similar to the way they did when the lava cooled.

Los Lajiales is a recent malpaís, its age could be approximately 6,000 years ago, and it has not suffered much erosion since then.

3. Learn about the history. While we enjoy an unpublished trail, our guide will tell us everything you need to know about this island, the youngest of the Canary archipelago.

4. Capture the moment. We can stop to rest and take some photos to immortalise the moment. Afterwards we will return to Valverde, our meeting point, and the activity will end.
