Enjoy a special route through the volcanic lava of the island of El Hierro that will allow us to admire a unique landscape of the Canary Islands.
A path with a geological focus walking among the volcanic cones that gave rise to the lava flows that form Los Lajiales, one of the most significant natural landscap es of the youngest island of the archipelago.
1. Start. Once we are at the meeting point, we will set off towards Los Lajiales, an area located in the lower leeward area, at the southern tip of the island, in the vicinity of the fishing village of La Restinga.
2. Walk among volcanic lava. You will find yourself in a unique landscape where you will be able to make out the almost intact morphology of the Lajiales Herreños, which still look very similar to the way they did when the lava cooled.
This is because as the Lajiales is a recent malpaís, where its age could approximately be 6,000 years old, there has not been too much erosion.
3. Learn about the history. While we enjoy an unheard of trail our guide will tell us everything we need to know about this island, the youngest in the Canary archipelago.
4. Capture the moment. We can stop to rest and take some photos to immortalise the moment. Afterwards we will return to Valverde, our meeting point, and the activity will end.
Note: If you are interested in other routes on the young island, please contact us for more information. We offer different trails where you can discover stories of our ancestors and unknown places on the island of El Hierro.
