La Gomera: Discover The Peaceful Canarian Island
There is a small calm island 1 hour away by ferry from the overcrowded beaches of the South of Tenerife. 22km from north to south and 25km across, where the living conditions were harsh until the 70s and is now sought after by those who want to spend some peaceful holidays.
The name of this island is La Gomera. La Gomera doesn’t have large beaches or a busy nightlife, but it definitely has a certain charm for those who seek something different from seaside tourism: hikers, nature lovers or simply quiet holidays.

The average temperature is 20°C in winter, and 27°C in summer. La Gomera is no exception from the other Canaries, known as “the islands of the eternal spring”. Never too hot and never too cold, all year long! This weather allows travellers to visit the island from January to December.
If you plan to visit La Gomera, we recommend you go from May to mid-October when the days are longer, but it is only a recommendation, since the temperature is warm 365 days a year and that the island is not too rainy in winter.

Walking in La Gomera
La Gomera might not be the most famous island of the Canaries, but it is well-known among hikers from all over the globe. Beaches in La Gomera
If you are on holidays to rest, no worries: in La Gomera, it feels like the time is passing more slowly. While there are not as many beaches as on the other islands, they are beautiful and way less frequented than the ones in the South of Tenerife. Here are a few you might enjoy!
PLAYA DE SANTA CATALINA
A wonderful pebble beach on the north side of La Gomera. If the swell is too strong, there is a natural swimming pool located nearby, which is the local favourite spot during summertime.
PLAYA DE LA CALETA
Yes, the access is a bit difficult, but you will be rewarded by a marvellous isolated beach where you can barbecue with your friends with a view on the coast of Tenerife.
PLAYA DE LA CUEVA
Located very close to the historic centre of San Sebastian de La Gomera, this beach is not very busy but counts with a few commodities (restaurants, showers, bathroom) and is watched by a lifeguard.
Other activities in La Gomera
Although the island is very small, there are many things to do in La Gomera! You might want to learn how to whistle – this was the ancient form of communication on the island and people could “talk” to each over from one city to another! – go dolphin or whale watching, kayaking along the coast, discover the secrets of the shepherds, taste the local wine and the infamous almogrote (typical cheese from the island)… There is something new to discover every day in La Gomera!!
