Best places to see almond blossom in Spain

1. Tenerife

Due to the island's warm temperatures, the almond blossom trees in Tenerife are the first to bloom in the whole of Spain from mid-January to mid-February.

From Santiago del Teide to Arguayo, there is an easy 10 km walk through Las Manchas.

Madrid

The Quinta de los Molinos Park is located in the San Blas district of Madrid, specifically in the Barrio del Salvador.

Considered a historic art garden, classified as a BIC ( Bien de Interés Cultural).

The park covers an area of 25 hectares where you can see the almond trees in bloom in Madrid as well as other species (olive trees, pines, eucalyptus).

The star of the park, however, are the almond blossom trees, which offer a great spectacle. The blossoming usually lasts a few weeks and usually takes place in February, although it all depends on the weather.

3. Basin

In the province of Cuenca lies Vallalpardo, whose extensive groves of almond trees in blossom colour the landscape in white and pink, forming a beautiful route of almond blossom.

There is a hiking route that goes from the village of Villalpardo to Vadocañas along 17 kilometres through these groves, one of the first to flourish on the Iberian Peninsula.

4. Cáceres

The town of Garrovillas de Alconétar in Cáceres celebrates every year the Muestra del Almendro en Flor, a one-day festival with excursions, gastronomic tastings and music.

The route through the surroundings of Garrovillas takes place in mid-February at 9 a.m. to go walking, cycling or horse riding along a covered route of about 8 km from the Plaza Mayor (a coquettish square) to the Gallito spot.

5. Alicante

From the end of January to the beginning of March, the almond blossom makes its way through the Region of Murcia.

The northwest together with the Sierra España area are the ideal places to see it.

During the month of February this area shared by the municipalities of Calasparra, Cehegín, Cieza, Mula and Bullas is filled with a colour that ranges from white to bright pink.

In particular, the flowering of Cieza is a spectacle of nature that takes place every year in February and March.

The millions of flowers of peaches, flat peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines and almond trees create a landscape that is unique in the world. This mixture creates landscapes that look like real paintings.

Undoubtedly, the largest chromatic variety of flowers in the world takes place in the Cieza Blossom.

7. Almeria

The Andalusian region of Filabres-Alhamilla is home to numerous villages that every February pay homage to the Almond Blossom by means of routes and gastronomic almond days.

Every weekend there is an event that culminates in a party at the end of the month. Lublin, Lucinena de la Torres, Solvas, Ureira del Campo, Castro de Firabre or Alcudia de Monte Agde are some of the localities participating in this tribute.

8. Malaga

The village of Guaro celebrates Almond Day on January 28, which is usually earlier than in other areas due to its mild climate. Gastronomy, crafts and rural tourism to celebrate this long-awaited blossoming.

Another ideal route to see the almond blossom in Malaga is in Casabermeja. This route climbs up to the Torre Zambra, a Muslim watchtower which is reached by a 6 km asphalted road with spectacular views of the Torcal and the Montes de Malaga.

After the trail, you can take the opportunity to visit the Peñas de Cabrera cave painting site.

9. Mallorca

Almonds are one of Mallorca's proudest foods. In addition to the Sierra de Tramuntana, you can also enjoy this spectacle in the central western part of the island, around Marratxi, Bunyola and Santa María del Camí.

The easy and beautiful route is from La Selva to Moscari. Here you can see some white painted fields, which is the ".Snow in Mallorca". Son Servera, in the east of the island, celebrates the "Feria de los Almendros enFlor" every year.

10. Huesca

In Huesca, on a hill at the entrance to the Pyrenees, stands Loarre Castle, the best preserved Romanesque castle in Europe.

At its feet a plain opens up which in the spring months is covered with almond blossom, creating a spectacular landscape.

11. Catalonia

This location is something surprising about the almond blossom route in Catalonia, because, in Tivissa they do not only have almond trees in blossom.

The season starts with almond trees, which are the first to blossom. They are followed by peach trees, with their more intense pink tones, and finally, cherry trees close the flowering show.

A colourful display that lasts for almost three months, from mid-February to mid-April. Another option for the whole family is to go from Tivissa to the hermitage of San Blas.
